How is this even possible?!?!?! Please, can someone explain this?!

How is this even possible?!!?  I was shocked I could come up with something, I know we both suck, but still, how can this happen?! We're both around ~950 and I'm playing Black.

nice comeback.  Now go back over your opening so you never get taken for a ride again by the queen nonsense, and with practice, you can punish players who try this sort of thing until they either wander off looking for someone else to play or straighten up.

There really is not much to explain, you found a plan while your opponent was fooling around looking for pawns to nab.

Looking for pawns to nab is a perfectly viable plan and it was working. If white had just played 36.f4 to stop the mate he was still winning easily.

AlCzervik

I think this should be analyzed more.

professor2

can be it 1 minute game?

Xilmi

When you said you saw the check pattern, white still had plenty of possibilities to deny it and I think simply taking the hanging white bishop would have been the saver option.

Only the last 2 moves of that combination where forcing.

Rational_Optimist

try to calculate some simple moves, for example it wasnot hard to see white reply after 2...g6

LOL that was great!

Just goes to show, the opera ain't over til the fat lady sings!

StampNut

Hilarious. Were you both blindfolded?

Typical lower-rated game when white tries 2. Qh5.

Start caring about your pawns and your rating will go up 200 points.

I was fooled by this opening, but that was early days.

C20: King Pawn Game: Wayward Queen Attack is the opening

Parham? 2 Qh5? A good opening?

...

Not quite sure what to say about that.

But, at this level of chess, Bad moves win games and good moves aren't understood, so who cares what you play? Might as well roll a pair of dice to see who wins...

LongIslandMark, white obviously played very badly in that game, if the parham is played correctly it is very hard to fend off.

Yeah, defending 1 move threats with natural developing moves I was going to play anyway is tough.  I know chess is an impossibly difficult game with many different types of challenges even for professional players, but the Parham's 1 move threats are up there among the toughest.

You can tell openings like the Parham are pro because they're the ones that get the crazy amounts of theory.  Who has time to study a 3 volume series on the Sicilian, Slav, or Parham?  That's why most amateurs and especially clueless beginners go for the cheap openings traps that are totally useless otherwise.  Guys like you may play the Parham, but don't expect us non-masters to understand the difficult threats.  Give me cheap threats any day.

And don't came back with that "you're just too lazy" stuff.  Not everyone has that kind of dedication to the game.  And hey, while you're reading your 3 volume Parham series, I get to go out with my wife, eat a steak, and take in a game of baseball.  You may be a pro, but I'm living my life pal!

warrior689

Brennon, really??? Parham just gives black immediate equality if not an advantage.

waffllemaster

Brennon_Huff, sorry about that, I just don't like it when strong players come just to brag about their extensive opening knowledge.  Maybe you weren't bragging though, just talking, if so I'm sorry.

But your most recent post too... warrior is only rated 2000, obviously he (like me) hasn't spent as much time on the openings as you (especially one as complex at the parham).  I guess I'm just jealous that I don't have 8 hours a day to spend on chess like some people.  But again, if you're not bragging about it then I guess I should apologize.  After all we all aspire to be the best we can with chess.  Such knowledge is something to be praised not dismissed.  I can only guess the countless hours over many years you've studied.

waffllemaster

Thanks Smile

Sorry about being so long winded.

(...)the parham can be implemented as a very successful attacking opening in any time control, not to mention its shock value with opponents who havent seen it before that could throw them off. It is successful if played well without the shock to the opponent anyway however.

The "psychological / shock value" is like the canary of opening mining.

When the proponent of some line comes up with the shock value as a valid reason to play it, you know you must switch critical thinking on.

waffllemaster

Don't all beginners play this?  I know I tried it when first starting out.  So did the horde of beginners I faced online.  I can't possibly imagine this move having any shock for anyone.

If it shocks them either they're so new to chess they need coaching on how to castle, or they're facing it at an elite level where the "shock" is due to the low quality and therefore implied disrespect.

FN_Perfect_Idiot

Some very interesting lines that I might explore sometime.  I didn't see that queen sac coming.
