I have been playing chess for about 3 months now and at the start i wasnt very good and my rating plummited down to around 600 i think. I then started to learn and my rating started increasing till it got to 1000. After that it just kind of stopped dead and i have been stuck there for several weeks. I was just wondering if anyone could give me any tips on getting past this. Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated. :)

Your rating jumps around as you learn, hitting lulls as you process new information and then translate it into your play. So you hit 1000, and now your at a lull. That's fine, keep studying and eventually your rating will begin to jump up again, maybe 1200, or 1300, followed by another lull. Its expected, don't let that discourage you. If you want help with your game you can message me and we'll work it out.

Hi I am giving free coaching and have my own coaching group called " Improve Your Chess" (IYC) which you can join if you like. The coaching includes analysing games, building up of your own opening repertoire, help to improve your endgame knowledge, help to find plans and get better in the important middlegame and playing games with me( with live comments if you like). The coaching sessions normally take place in live chess, where I am online very often. You can also check out my blogs, where you can learn something about openings endgames and the middlegame. Finding of plans is one of my most important topics. When you have any questions to me then just ask them here :).

2 books I can really suggest for players in your rating range are:

1. Max Euwe : Amateur Vs Master - A really brillant book which helps you to learn from your mistakes and to avoid blunders.

2. Bobby Fischer teaches chess- The perfect book to practise tactics and to get a better understanding of chess in general.

Cheers and think about my offer, Till :)
