Actually, it might be good to get a consensus on this issue. This rumor comes up repeatedly on here. Yes or no?
We're talkin' business. Let's talk business.

Possibly this story got started because someone read it on Mediamass and thought it was real, despite the outrageous claims in it and the list of other clearly ridiculous stories about him. I especially like the bit about his burger chain (Fat Karpov Burgers), his fashion line (Anatoly Karpov Seduction), and his perfume (With Love from Anatoly).
I think he made his billions as an early adapter of BitCoin.
You should put this in your blog and in a month it'll be repeated all over Chess.com as the gospel truth.
I'm not saying he is a billionaire. I'm saying there are rumors that he is a billionaire. Are these rumors credible? How did these rumors start? In what print sources have these rumors been found? How reliable are said sources?
there have been some rumors that he wents nearly bankrupt ($352 in his entire bank acount) so at least a hundredare.
The guy has the intellect to become a billionaire if he wants to. Did you know that Kasparov target, Vladmir Putin the dictator is worth 70 billions?
He allegedly has used his power to build large secret ownership stakes several multi-billion dollar commodity firms. His most vocal critics assert that Putin has leveraged his power to acquire a 4.5% ownership stake in natural gas producer Gazprom, a 37% stake in oil company Surgutneftegas and 50% stake in Swiss oil-trader Gunvor. Gazprom alone does over $150 billion in revenue annually, Guvnor does $80 billion and Surgutneftegas over $20 billion. Using their most recent market capitalizations, Putin's combined ownership stakes would give him a personal net worth of $70 billion!
Actually, Karpov is not a billionaire.
In fact, this is just an evil rumor being spread by the CIA to discredit johnmuscha.
You see, they feel threatened by his superior intellect, but they are too stupid to realize thst is the real reaon theyhate him.
(My work here is through. Let the wall-bouncing begin, I'll be back in a few weeks to give you another nudge.)

At least I know how to distinguish a reliable source from the mere ramblings of an internet self-published hack with no accountability. At least I don't believe everything I read then repeat it as if gospel, then refuse to discuss the matter when people question the sources.
You are nothing more than a coward that is not man enough to admit when he is wrong, or even discuss the matter further when you know you are in a losing position.
Of course, you are a chess player so your critical thinking and reason skills are just about nil.
nd what photo collection is complete without oil and gas billionaire, and former World Champion, Anatoly Karpov

He became the first millionaire playing chess (now a billionaire in real estate and oil investments).

The current issue of New in Chess has a tantalizing blurb on whether Anatoly Karpov is a billionaire. In January, a Russian company called Petromir reported that they had found a new gas field in eastern Siberia, and financial analysts valued the company at more than one billion dollars. Karpov, the world chess champion from 1975 to 1985, was once the sole registered owner of Petromir, although it is unclear what stake he has in the company today. It would be interested if perhaps the greatest positional player in history was also by far the richest.

What do you say to this?
Susan Polgar, in 2007, repeated these claims in her Blog.
