Is "gg" too much to ask?

Does anyone say "gg" anymore?  More and more often I get no response or a nasty comment.  Last week some guy typed like "lucky *sshole" after our game.  I used to wonder why so many chess players block chat, but now I see why it may be better.

When you show sportsmanship and say GG win or lose doesn't matter if the opponent is nasty or doesn't like it when other players see you have a class act it reflects well on you.

You have to take the good with the bad. Accept some people for who they are, move on, and block that person so that you don't play them again...that being said, it infuriates me too - I just have grown to expect it and that anticipation kind of dulls the sting.

I too have noticed the lack of those who say good game.  It does reflect well on those who do.  What amazes me is some of the rude dialog that goes on during a lot of the games.  I find myself disabling chat more often nowadays.

    Oh well!

That's sad. I always type gg. Well... there have been times where I'm frustrated at myself for losing a winning position and I rage quit the application lol. But there's no need for abuse or scorn - no-one likes playing a loud winner or a sore loser.

I used to let it bother me too.  But now i realize its some people just being stupid.  After 30 years of OTB play i have had 1 instance where a player was rude.  I brought it to his coaches attention and lets just say he never acted that way again.

What you have to realize is that for some its the "security" of sitting at a computer and not having to face there opponent.

It's just that I feel bad to say GG to a guy when I checkmated him in 12 moves... He doesn't deserve it !Yell

Seriously, i say gg to nice players so that my ''gg'' means something

I always say gg to my opponent, wether i get checkmated in 2 moves or draw or win.

Good sportsmanship isn't an attribute of all players, which is a shame. Some blokes are rather cheeky.

i typed "gg" once and i got confused and wasn't sure if i meant "good game" or "greek gypsies."  the more i thought about it i wondered if in fact, i meant, "grey gladbach."  it was bananas.

I believe the Dutch take GG to mean Gangly Giraffe... It's cruel since that's really not their fault.

A 'gg' must be justified, e.g.,

Oh no, more moaners. Just grow a thicker skin and ignore the discourteous minority (who are found everywhere in life).

it doesn't bother me when someone doesn't say gg in the end (especialy if he loses), but it is rude without hello mesage in the begining of a game.

I don't mind a gg when the game ends.  But what's funny is on occasion people say gg to me when they think they have inevitably won, and it turns out I end up winning or drawing the game.

i think that is just arrogance on their part.  i usually end up saying gg to every game, but if it is a really exciting game that has me on the edge of my seat the whole game, I tell them!  I have yet to run into any rude people. i usually make friends with the people i play with =)

Don't take it personal, they are just "pissed" becaue they lost a game, you don't know them, and they don't know you, so why take it personal?

Stupid comments dosen't bother me, since I don't know this "stupid" person.

-It's a bit like people and cars, "evryone" becomes an "ass" behind the stearing wheel.

I'm more likely to say 'Well played' if I get beat.  Good game doesn't seem appropriate to me if I'm losing badly because I know I could have done a whole lot better.

If I win I'm more likely to say 'Thanks for the game'.
