Is the USCF Still Relevant?

The USCF is broken and failed on many levels.

But it is still the only game in town if someone wants to play real chess.

I don't know about that.  I consider my turn-based games "real chess."  I have a lot of fun with them, and would much rather work on them than spend another tournament weekend locked up with a bunch of crabby goofballs.

Even the ones against me?!

Well said.  I've yet to play a USCF sanctioned game in a room that had windows.  Prison-like.

Yeah, but...and I know that those who play it will throw rocks at me...but if you are sitting at a computer and making up to the first 20 moves based on a computer database...and are using an analysis board or referring to books, notes or whatever, while playing...you are really just playing sh*t chess.

That's my opinion. Anybody doesn't like it: tough tooties.

Especially the ones against you!

And actually, most tournament halls I've played in have had windows...which only tended to make me wish I was out there (and somewhere else).

As mentioned above, you have FIDE, and USCF, would it not be improved if only one world chess org. governed, and have chapters in all countries that played chess?   hmmmmmm?

I like NimzoRoy am a life member of the USCF, my life membership was only $300  1969, was that a deal!  But back then 300 babanas was alot!  I also discontinued the mag, because I just could not find time to go over it, too much work put food on table pay bills!!

But I am still sentimental about the USCF, its all we have right now vs FIDE. I only hope something in the near future takes place that will give us a more popular chess org and user friendly to all levels $$.  That will hear less complaints as I am sorry to hearing now!

Maybe if Obamas med thingy gets passed we can stick in a chess clause to benefit all US chess players???? hmmmmmmmInnocent

What makes you think I give one bleep about what you think?

Hey, you used to live in Greenland.  How choosy can you afford to be?

UCSF is a fine west coast school, not Ivy League, but hey, take what you can get right?

Andy, that you enjoy correspondence chess more than OTB chess is great. Have at doing what makes you happy.

However, I KNOW that the game isn't the same for me, or for most people.

How do I know that? Easy, I analyze my online correspondence games just like I do my OTB games -- and the level of play just isn't the same. Either for myself, or for those I'm playing against.

Maybe that changes when one gets into the 2000+ ratings, but for me, there's a clear and obvious difference in quality.

AndyClifton

Kingpatzer, I find it a little difficult to believe that you play better OTB than in correspondence.  Perhaps you should take a little extra time, since you can, and move the pieces around a bit (lol).
