Let's have a rematch

Sort:

I know there's a few here who do this and I would just like to say, why decline a rematch?

For sure, if you lose a game you want a rematch. If you win, they'd like a rematch. I never ever decline the rematch. I've played rounds where I've got demolished the first game and then won every game there after. Similarly, I've won the first game then been offered a rematch then lost poorly.

I'm highly suspicious the decline is to do with their rating and the possiblity of losing the points they just earned. Seriously, in the long run does it even matter?

I'll decline if they're very rude or let their clock run for 10 minutes... stuff like this.

I'll decline if we've already played many games and one of us has been doing much better for many games in a row.

I'll decline if I don't have time for another game.

Other than that, I'll accept.

Some people do get emotional though. If it's a "lucky" win sometimes I'm nervous after I accept my rematch Tongue Out But mostly I think they really want to win so they might get sloppy, so I count it as an emotional edge >:-)

I think for some people it's too much emotion. They want a nice anonymous game where they don't have to think about anything but the game in front of them. So I say don't take it personally if they decline, there are plenty more opponents, best to just ignore and move on.

i totally agree with what chessmicky said.Especially when people ask for a rematch without first bothering to write gg..

leiph18

Same logic applies, no one owes you gg.

gg offends some people too. They think if the winner says "gg" they're being sarcastic. There have been whole topics about this silly stuff.

@chessmickey

I'm just saying that's all.

@leiph18

Damn, I forgot to include those variables for a decline. Oh yes, of course. I should have rephrased my post as "first offer at a rematch".

Apotek

agreed,no one owes me\you a gg either.

Hey, I see no downsides to a rematch - because, hey! More chess.

Unless you don't have time.

If you do, you can analyze the last game to see how you could do better and try to impove.  You could try something slightly different and see if it works.  If you won, try the exact opening to see if he chooses a different line.  You could even do a whole new kind of opening to try it out.

More chess!

I nearly always accept rematches however if I decline there is nothing personal I may have to go to see a movie or something.

is it also ok if players want to play one game and analyze a lost game before playing the next to find out what they did wrong.

people may have a million legit reasons for not accepting a rematch.

tournaments have automatic rematches

amilton542

Players who decline rematches are cowards who take the flight with the points they've gained because there is a high probability they will lose if they accept.

A chess player is out for blood, not arty farty suits me increases my rating business. You know who you are.

This guy seems itching for a fight. Tell you what. I'll play ya live right now. If I win, you suck. If I lose, you're right.

Pulpofeira

amilton, two questions: 1. What are people supposed to do with online ratings? Eat them? 2. How is after winning a game a player has a high probability of losing the second one against the same opponent?

incantevoleutopia

I can sense when they ask for a rematch because their ego just can't stand defeat. You know, a strange mechanism...when I accept and beat them again, they don't close the game's window but they don't ask for another rematch either. They just kinda stand there, half raging and half not believing that they failed again. Funny when they type something mean too.
