once again the draw on time ...

Me: king + pawn on the 7th rank, Opponent: king (in front of my pawn) + bishop.

I guess there's a reason why this was not rated a draw when I ran out of time (though I don't get it how he should have mated me), but I don't think it's very sportsmanlike when he uses his 20 more seconds to stupidly move his bishop around the board waiting for my time run out doing the same and declining a draw :-/

Premove your king on the opposite colour squares.  If you have a pawn then there's probably a silly helpmate in there somewhere.  For instance if the queening square is the right colour then you could have this:

Silly, but there you go, not impossible.

You lose, because you can be checkmated. An example is the diagram sstteevveenn made. You could take a bishop at 8th rank, and there could be a mate. You should sacrafise the pawn, to get a draw if you dont have enough time.

The square doesnt matter, you can just use another corner.

well, OK, actually the pawn was sacrificed, he could have captured it - probably knew it'd be a draw of insufficient material then ...

I guess I'll have to take a look at that premove thing, sounds just like the right thing for such instances, except if he used that too for his senseless bishop moves ...

SimonSeirup I could be being dull, but I dont see a mate with same-coloured bishops.

And yeah, If he was using premoves too then you'd have to make 50 of them or hope for a repetition.  Basically just make a load of premoves for moves that are guaranteed to be legal so you don't lose time, and every so often offer a draw.  After 50 moves or a 3-fold repetition it will auto-accept.

It was a timed game, and your opponent won on time.  Why is this such a hard concept for some to understand?

Yeah, technically it was probably correct ... if this was at an OTB tournament every arbiter would have declared that he had neither possibility nor intention to win, but however. If even so far, since every chess player I know IRL would have accepted this as a draw and wouldn't have tried to score a win by "quick wood pushing" if he were sitting at a table with me face to face ... but don't worry, I even sent him a trophy for outstanding sportsmanship and fairness :)
