Actually, the more you play, the less points you earn/lose.
It is to help balance your rating.
For example, when I started chess.com I lost 50-60 points due to one loss and earned 80 for a win against a sleepy 1256.
Eventually the points you earn/lose level and stay that way.
Unless you decide to play a 300 and lose on purpose. Then you lose BIG!
Why does chess.com give less points to me, even if I defeat a player with more points than mine. But if I loose to a lower ranked player, I end up loosing more points. My victory is less rewarding than my losses, in terms of points.
