Stuff Non-Chess Players Say

Bughouse is my forte. Even when my partner is trash.

Alright, I don't like bughouse.

Haha what happened! PS I'm not a fan of it either. 

I went to an (unrated) tourney this past weekend and after it was over, there were some chess players who got together for bughouse. I think it's just a fun past time and not as competitive as one-on-one. Maybe it's also a way to play more interactive chess with the laughs, but still some strategy included, even if it's unconventional. There's a vid on YouTube of grandmasters playing bughouse and that vid has always stuck in my mind. They're laughing and having fun. So, even though I think blitz is more fun, bughouse is just another way to have fun with chess, too.

I read the rules. I tend to be a Chess purist. The game is perfect the way it is. The only variation I want to play is Four Person Chess.

Do explain... now I'm curious 

"Hey guys, is this Chess Club?" 

Response in your mind: No, it's Candy Land Club and on Mondays we play Monopoly. (YES IT'S CHESS CLUB!)

"How does enpassant work again?"

"Can't you do...oh wait never mind."

Friend:  "What about that move [points at board]?"

Me:  "That hangs your queen."

Things I say to people who don't play chess:

"Switch your king and your queen."

"That's illegal."

"That's also illegal."

"That's illegal too."

"It's not a 'horse'."

"No, you cannot take the king."

and "No the king can't check the opponent's king. That doesn't even make sense." Funny enough I had to explain that today 

This actually happened in my country. Some guy in the government tried to ban chess in schools because "it promotes obesity by sitting long hours thinking the next move."

Uh, really? The grandmasters I've seen are not even fat. Sounds like some kind of random complaint obviously not based on facts?!?!  

I saw an interview with Vishy in which he talked at length about how important physical fitness and prowess was in chess, so that one has the stamina and fortitude to make it through a lengthy match.

They oughta have some quiet food to eat during games. 

Yep, I believe it. ESPECIALLY at that level of chess. Phew.... can't even imagine....
