So, then, does that mean we have to play only as Black for the rest of time? What good does that achieve? Will we eventually be able to choose either color?
The DISABLED Color pick

The current system looks at your last 10 games and sort of 'evens it out'. So if you only played white, I'm guessing the first 5 games will be black, but then the numbers are even and anything could happen.
The same would happen if you only ever played black. You'll have white for a while but it will become random again.
Also, I don't think chess.com is trying to 'teach' anyone about how you 'have to' play either colour.
The simple fact is that there have been too many players seeking only white - they couldn't be coupled to players seeking black because of that imbalance.
Coupling 'only white' seekers with 'random' players meant that the random players weren't really playing random - the odds of getting black had become higher.
Basically there's only 3 options:
- Only white seekers get very long search times (annoying)
- Random seekers play mostly black (unfair)
- You can't choose colour (fair and fast, but somewhat more restrictive)
I can see why chess.com chose how they did.
OH MY GOD, CHESS.COM NO LONGER LETS ME CHOOSE WHICH COLOR TO CHOOSE DURING LIVE CHESS....Okay, it's out there, and let's get over it people. To those that always play as white, I'm sorry, get over it and play black for a change. Learn from it. It's very good practice to see what difficulties THE OTHER COLOR faces against your favored openings. It doesn't matter what YOU play as white, play enough games as black and you'll inevitably see it. For those that always play with black, it's time to figure out that First Move Repertoire, and you don't have that coveted position of having the right to move next anymore. Before anyone starts ranting about my chess.com rating, I usually play drunk, or extremely tired, or, if you look at my games, am plugging in new moves to see what happens, OR I'm doing something that is intuitive to me, like when a book gives me a position and says a Greek Gift wont work in a given situation, and I see that, I'm going to try it because losing because of it or seeing a proper defense to it teaches me not to use it better than a book telling me not to. PERHAPS you could use your unfavored color time trying out new things, like new opening lines or trying to create sacrifices. Ultimately learning how to play both colors only makes you better. After learning the Slav OTB, knowing what my plans were as Black, I had a better understanding of what to do WHEN FACING IT AS WHITE. Take the time that you hate because you have to play, OH NOES!?!?, the opposite color, and learn from it.
If you are one of those whiners and you didn't read anything else in this post... read this, please... STOP POSTING ABOUT IT BECAUSE THE REST OF US ALREADY KNOW AND WE STOPPED CARING A LONG TIME AGO.
