Hi everyone,  Was talking to a fellow member of chess.com the other day, he said he does not think many Veterans either active or retired play chess.   I am not sure I agree with this.....I am a Veteran of the United States Army and I love the game.

Just like to know how many more of us are here....

Hope to hear from you all, country you served does not matter.

Thank you Glenn

U.S Army, 11th Armored Cavalry, Fulda Germany.

I am a Vet. That is where I got started in Post Card while serving. Of course moving 8 times in less then 5 years killed that notion ;-) At Fort Bragg lots of OTB in Raleigh, about an hour north. In Virginia now. Good chess club in Arlington but that is too far for me ;-( So go Vets!

There is a veteran's group and there are probably at least 100 veterans or more who play chess here.  I am one of them.

BW. The AForce is not being a Vet that is like camp compared to the other services. Sorry your veterans status is declined due to your branch of lollygagging ;-) The food, barracks, general comfort preclude you LOL!

I served in the Army National Guard  1972 through 1978.  Basic in Ft. Leonard Missouri.  Then back to South Dakota.  842nd Engineering Unit.  My wife also served as a cook in the same unit.  I have a real sense of pride every time I see a service person in uniform or a flag.  I also find ways to financially help our service people.  I also pray for those serving.  They put their lives at risk to protect our lives and spend time away from their families.

Hello Lee, Thanx for your service to our country,  I also feel exactly as you do,  This is why we have started a group for chess players who have served or are serving they're country,  Please accept my invite to join us @ Veterans of the Armed Forces.  I will be sending you an invite shortly.  Thanx Glenn

Hello. My name is Olin Martin I am a nurse practitioner at the Seattle VA and recently started a chess club here to help build a sense of community for our Veterans.

Was thinking of organizing a Chess.com Veterans Club and came across this forum.

Is this something that folks might be interested in joining?
