What is it with annotaters?

I know I'm just a low rated patzer, but why do so many annotaters of GM tournament games make it sound like they know every move of home preparation the GM has studied or looked at. Do titled players that have to actually win games to get paid really disclose their complete home preparation to the annotaters? I know that a lot of the annotaters are at the tournaments and are GM`s themselves, but does that mean they are given all this information? I was just playing through the candidates game Anand vs Aronian, and the annotater says, `if only Aronian had let his computer think for a few more minutes he would have found this move`. Are they just blowing smoke, or do they really have the inside track on all these players study habits? I welcome your comments and feedback. But whatever you do, don't baste me, lol.

I think he means that had he thought longer about his current move, he would have found the better move.  In this instance, it appears "computer" just means "his brain".
