Who should offer rematch?

Is there a protocol for who should offer rematch, loser or winner? 

Can't your 'Seconds' do it for you?

It's a valid question, but don't worry about it; if you want a revenge, you can ask, if you want to beat someone again, you can ask also.

I don't think it matters much if one loss or won the game...if one desires to play another game then they can request a rematch; of course, don't be offended if your request is declined...I've had to decline rematches due to being out of time for the day.

A winner should offer rematch, it's like a good manner but not the rule. But in on-line chess people forgetting the traditions of the chess :)

I offer a rematch if the game had a " mouse slip" in it. Or if I made a mind blowing blunder >.>

This tradition presumably derives from duels, in which the loser wasn't in a fit state to request a rematch.

I almost always offer a rematch. It's faster than finding another game. Plus, you know your opponent now, his/her style of playing.

there is nothing wrong w/ an offer in either case. dont get hung up over a declined request though.

Ditto, although I usually hit the rematch button and the new-game button. I play whoever responds quickest.

There are exceptions. If the guy's a real jerk or whatever, no rematches are offered. He might even make it to my blocked list if he's really special.

I think the person who wants to play another game of chess against the same opponent should offer a rematch.

The person who receives the offer should accept it if he wants to play another game of chess.

Seriously, the point of the above is that I have read comments from people who think there are rules about offering or accepting rematches, and who think that failing to follow the rules is bad manners.  Keep in mind that you really have no clue who is on the other end of that internet connection.  You don't know how much time they have, or how much time they want to spend playing.  Try not to assume that a rematch offer made or declined means a great deal.  Play, or not, depending how much chess you want to play.

if I win as white I always offer the rematch so they get the opportunity to turn me over - it only fair

I generally only offer the offer of a rematch.

More importantly, who is supposed to curse first after a game or several games. I have been holding back and letting my opponent's curse at me, but now it occurs to me I am missing out on some chess players convention (everyone seems to be doing it!).

Is it possible I am offending people by not participating in their traditions? "Who is this guy who thinks he's too good to curse at me?"

Jokes apart, what stirs up the most angst is when a the losing player fires out a rematch request without even a courteous gg/thx and then calls you a @#$@#$@# for either declining/ignoring him.
