How is this game draw ?

Really? At a guess Whites time ran out and you, being Black, do not enough (or any) material to give checkmate which is a draw. It is a common mistake which mouse racers who try to run their opponents clock usually fall into.

One side could have king and 5 queens against king and one pawn and if the side with king and 5 queens runs out of time the other side wins.

Therefore if you are playing some kind of fast chess and you are about to run out of time and you do not have time to check mate your opponent--the thing to do is to capture his last one pawn.

Those are the rules of the type of chess you are playing.

Didn't I say this?

Thanks everyone, that helps understand ... so essentially you can't hope to win on time in this version of game

I think so.

So, what if you don't make a single move in a game and let your time go?  How can they prove it wouldn't be a draw?

Happy reading, sir. Article 9 may prove useful.

I am sorry, I don't see where it addresses this.  I realized when I tested my question I had to make a move so the question would be, "What if you only make 1 move?"  Why is that considered a win but a draw with the original poster?"

Article 6.9 deals with this. If YOU run out of time, YOU lose the game, UNLESS your opponent does not have "sufficient mating material" in which case it is a draw.

The OP had insufficient mating material (lone black King), so when white ran out of time it was a draw.

In the example you posted, both sides have sufficient mating material, so whoever runs out of time will lose. There is no need to "prove" anything, it is simply a case of looking at the material left on the board.

Don't bother Lagomorph he just wants to argue.
