Can you still buy membership by sending payment in Paypal?

I tried to purchase Monthly Platinum but Paypal told me to add a credit card to proceed, and I don't have one, and I never will.
Searching the site learned me that 3 years ago you could send your payment through the paypal "send payment" option if you put your chess.com account in the messge box, and your account would be upgraded.
Does that still work, and do I have to warn chess.com in advance?

No, i tried that and Paypal told me to add a card.
It´s a known problem, I did a search on the forums and it showed up a few times. In one of the threads Chess.com said it was possible to buy membership through the `send money`option, but that was a three year old topic, that is why I ask if that is still possible.

Sounds like your problem is with Paypal. They usually do require a credit card as backup funding of your account.

Why do you not just get one?

I signed up for paypal to be able to pay without a credit card, getting one to be able to pay with paypal would be akward then...
And I just don't want one, way to risky in many ways.
I read that sending payment directly from paypal works, if that's so, I don't even need to get a credit card.

I sent the payment but it hasn't worked so far. In the mean time I am getting really frustrated by all the notifications that I have to upgrade in order to progress or play in multiple tournaments.  Why isn't staff answering my ticket or post here?

I believe if you pay by paypal and don't have a credit card on your account, it is a bit like posting a cheque....you will have to wait a couple of weeks for it to process.

I have been paying through my paypal funds without a credit card for years, it never takes weeks to process, maybe one week if you count the time it takes for your payment to be withdrawable, but that goes for any paypal payment, including the credit card ones. Usually shops regard that as payment received and send your goods.

Staff replied to my ticket, this way of payment is still working, so I am going to sit and see when that crown will appear next to my username.
