Chess.com email: web interface dead?

Sort:

Dear chess.com staff,

recently, i noticed that i cannot reach my chess.com email anymore through the normal web-interface (i have not set it up as a POP, nor do I want to). The link "email" on my "home" page opens a pop-up (as it should), tries to load http://www.chess.com/home/read_email and then remains blank.

The same happens in Chrome, Android's built in browser and Puffin.

As you can imagine, this is quite annoying. A quick fix would be appreciated.

Hi! I'm really sorry for the inconvenience and for the sudden change. We did recently remove the webmail portal as part of our phasing out of the Chess.com Email program. As of right now, the only way to access your Chess.com email is through a POP3 client such as Outlook, or MacMail.

You can actually also link your Chess.com email to most of the "big email" accounts like gmail. If you need help with setting it up I'd be more than happy to help you!

Hi Jac1yn,

Thanks for your reply, though I must say I'm decidely unhappy about the fact I now have to spent time to fix this - hopefully not much more than the 15 mins I already sank into it, but that's already too much.

I must say that you remind me of my local supermarket: throwing out all kinds of stuff I normally bought, to make room for 'new products' they are all enthusiastic about, but which I don't want to buy. Worse, I see no reason why you need to phase out a service. Just as with the interface chance a year or two ago (a botched implementation if I ever saw one), there seems to be no consideration at chess.com for the customer who is satisfied with the old ways and hates to spent time on change which doesn't benefit him.

That said, I'll take you up on your offer: I get the following error report in outlook.

Task 'drphil@chess.com - Receiving' reported error (0x800CCC18) : 'Your e-mail server rejected your login with Secure Password Authentication (SPA). Verify your account properties. Under Tools, click E-mail accounts.'

Moreover, tips on how to make sure my chess.com email doesn't end up in the same folder as my regular mail is much appreciated as well, cause outlook seems to think customers want all their email in one list. (No, I don't, tyvm).

Well, that solved the problem where I couldn't access it, but created an even bigger one:

It dumps the mail from chess.com straight along with my other mail in 'inbox'. Which is NOT welcome, as the chess.com adress gets lots of junk.

Now I need to sort that out again. And i don't even have a clue how, as i never had the need to invest time in it, nor do i wish to spent time on configuring outlook.

Another hour of my life gone to waste.

Why oh why, chess.com? Why harass paying members with all these needless changes?

There's another thread on it here, I found some simplerways of accessing the email than setting up outlook (and allow you to keep them segregated)

From what I have read, only premium members can still access their emails (and only by using additional software/websites).

I have to ask.

Sorry what was that?

It seems like you are trying to talk... so close... so close!

Staff is not even answering questions that are obviously leading to more sales, for example:

Are you some how related to the social bunny?

SocialPanda

I haven´t had the pleasure of meeting him yet.

Talk to no one for about 3 days and he will magically appear.

Then you can talk, play games and beat the snot out of him until you feel better! :)

SocialPanda

which is his blitz rating?

I NEED HELP!!

I don't know how to link my chess.com mails to another email address. The problem is I trusted chess.com enough to use it as my safety mail address in case I need to be sent a code to recover my first mail address which is exactly what I need to do right now. So and because I know absolutely nothing about computers does anyone here can help me to open my @chess.com mailbox?
