Is Anything Done?

I was just wondering if anything is done when you report rating abuse?  I can't tell you how many players that I have played that show a rating below 1100 or especially below 1000 that play unrated games where their play is WAY above that level?

My skill level varies on my alcohol intake.  I place blitz buzzed so it's quit a bit lower than my sober skill.  I doubt much of anything happens when you report so called "rating abuse".

Lagomorph

I guess "TheyDMan"

Can someone please post a constructive comment?  There are many players that 'water down' their rating in rated games, so that apparently they can get their jollies from beating players in unrated games.  My understanding is that this is called rate abuse.  Is there anything done, or is this considered an acceptable practice on this site?

I for one cannot be bothered to, no.

WhoDMan

If you can't post a constructive comment, Lagomorph, then don't post any at all.

A player that intentionally plays to lower his/her rating is the definition of rating abuse.  Their level of play in unrated games that they play to get their jollies should be proof enough of their initial rating abuse to warrant some action to demonstrate that it is unacceptable?

These ratings are completely worthless, and don't give it any importance whatsoever... Then your question also lose meaning, just enjoy the game of chess, have fun, play unrated if you are OK with that... :)

If the game is unrated, why worry about it at all? Instead of starting a forum topic on "rating abuse" in unrated games, why not use that opportunity to learn from the game instead? Look at your opponent's play to see what weaknesses you left in your position and how they went about exploiting those weaknesses.

Accept the wisdom of Capablanca, who famously said, "Most players do not like losing, and consider defeat as something shameful. This is a wrong attitude. Those who want to perfect themselves must regard their losses as lessons and learn from them what sorts of things to avoid in the future."

I'm probably worse I actually have sites I only play sober. and on here I sometimes play  turn based sober but most games I'm hammered.

We should start a completely smashed only tourney!

Can someone at least tell me definitively, (without the scorn or unrelated remarks please), if there is any rules on rating abuse?  Specifically, if a person intentionally plays rated games to lower their rating, (for whatever reason), is that considered a violation of the rules of this site or not?

Pulpofeira

I think so.

We've had enough threads about sandbagging;  https://www.chess.com/forum/search?keyword=sandbagging

WhoDMan

So, if it is a violation of the rules on this site, as rating abuse, how and where do you report a violation?

Call 911.

In version 3, click on the icon that consists of a question mark within a circle.  But your complaint probably won't lead to anything -- sandbagging is very difficult to prove.
