Ladder Chess

I'd love to see Chess.com implement a ladder chess feature on the site!!  I know other chess sites have this and it seems like it would be another great reason to call chess.com the best chess site there is!!  I am pary of the Greymatter Chess Ladder group and it is really awesome, but it had to be manually run which is very complicated and work intensive on the part of the group leader.  Any chance we could get an automated chess ladder feature on chess.com? I'd consider a Christmas present from chess.com :)  Thanks for letting me know :) Brentonious :)

Typical rules for a chess ladder ...

Rules

  1. A player may challenge any other player up to 2 places higher.
  2. Once a challenge has been made, neither the challenger nor the player who has been challenged can make or receive other challenges until the match has been played.
  3. If the challenger wins the match, he or she will move to the place previously occupied by the player that was challenged. The player that was challenged and any players in between will each move down a place.
  4. Try to play matches within a week. If a match hasn't been played within that time, the challenged player has the option to cancel the challenge.

There seem to be several external sites which offer the facility of managing a chess ladder e.g. http://chessladders.com/   It appears that you can use the free facility just to manage your chess ladder - but continue to play the actual games on chess.com.

Check out our group that plays it.  Click here.

It is regular chess (i.e. normal rules etc.) played in a setting (somewhat like a tournament) where everyone is placed in a vertical ranking (a 'ladder') and you can challenge people above you to move up the ladder.  The focus is less on rating than on seeking to move up the ladder by beating people above you.

So how do we get Erik to let us know if ladder chess facilitated automatically by chess.com is something that is a possibility for the site?  Seems like something doable and if there is an entire website dedicated to it then also in demand :)  Why go elsewhere - let's have chess.com have it ALL!

It's already on Erik's radar - item #19 on Wishlist#4 : Ladder/pyramid play

OK, thanks.  Any idea where it is on the development priorities?  Obviously there are lots and lots of great things to do that would make an already great site absolutely superior!  Any sense if this is something for the foreseeable future or simply an item on the users' wishlist?

If you're interested, come and check out the developments at the GrayMatter Ladder Chess group here on chess.com.  We've just begun a new approach that is flexible and leads to dynamic movement on the ladder.  Check out the two forum threads: The Least You Need to Know and The Most You Need to Know.
