Newbie question: how do I access computer analysis?

Sort:
Mallin

I've just joined the site - one of the drawcards for me was the computer analysis feature. I can get to the demo of it  at http://www.chess.com/home/computer_analysis_demo but I can't find where to actually input my games for analysis! I've looked at all the menu options at the top and I just can't find it. I'm sure I am just being blind because the feature must be accessible... Please help!

Scottrf

It's only for games played on this site.

Thanks for the response. So there's no way at all to get analysis of "real-life" games that I've written down?

Scottrf

Download an engine and GUI.

e.g. http://www.houdinichess.com/

http://www.playwitharena.com/

Chess.com analysis, no. But it isn't great anyway.

You could always post it for human analysis in the analysis section, which is often more useful anyway. But make sure you analyse/annotate it yourself first.

Ok, thank you!

Actually there is but it's a little convuluted and given the quality of the onsite analysis and the ready availability of better cheap (older copies of Fritz which can be loaded up with almost any of the free engines) or free, it may not be worth it.  Find a "coconspirator" (it's not really against the terms of service as far as I know) who is willing to play an unrated game against you and send him the game you want analyzed.  You both follow your "scripts" and you have your game ready to be analyzed.  I'd say get a game or two you've played here analyzed first.  You may be amazed at  a computer analysis that doesn't have an opening book associated with it and spews nonsense back at you throughout the opening.  Anyway welcome to the site!  The Chess Mentor alone is more than worth the price of admission...

They can be nonsense in endgames too. I was told 30... Rd2 in this game was a mistake (one of my 25% mistakes). It's surely the only move a human would consider.

Hello,

I got a similar question : i can't find the "request computer analysis" button. I understand it's supposed to be found "to the right of the board and above the Chat Window/Move List" (from the "Help" article : https://support.chess.com/customer/portal/articles/1444868-computer-analysis-how-do-i-get-my-games-analyzed-), but there's nothing like that on my page when i review a game i've played.

Thanks in advance for any advice :)

                         What IS on your page??

RonaldJosephCote

The box that has the moves, the word ANALYIZE should be written in blue. Just above, "GET PNG". It would have a small checkerboard right next to it.

Heiervang

Thanks for your help.

That's what i got on my page : http://www.hostingpics.net/viewer.php?id=708296Capturede769cran20140721a768013103.png

By the way, if you know how i can change the default language to english, that would be of some help as well.

I'm not computer savy, but try making Google your homepage.  I know its one of your settings.                Your getting a page from, "live chess".   Its a little different when you play tournament chess. Its not as cluttered as much.           In French, the analysis is;    nouvel echiquier D'analyse  center box, right side of page.   You want anaysis after the game is done right ??

@Hiervang:

See that little green pawn at the bottom of the page?  And the list next to it?  Click on the last word and change it back to English.  Like mine:

Thanks Baddogno, i got the english version now.

But still can't find the computer analysis...Maybe it would be easier (and better) to download a chess engine ? Is there any free one available on the internet ?

I remember the engine called out a blunder when I simplified a rook endgame with +2 pawns to a trivial pawn endgame with +1 pawn. The computer analysis very much preferred holding on to the pawn, keeping things complicated.

The blunder/mistake/inaccuracy categorization is ridiculous and Arena + Stockfish/Houdini/Komodo is superior by far anyway.
