@Hughston, yes, a moderator is a staff person.
And zhitato, I have no answer to your problem. The only thing you can do is wait, I suppose.
I believe I'VE earned enough merit badges on this subject to chime in with a modicum of rationality. Muting is a coloquialism. The correct punishment is; "losing your posting privileges". Its just like a court procedure. The amount of time is "in theory" sapose to be equivalent to the offence involved. The offense can be anything that directly contradicts the T.O.S, however, your history of posting comes into account. If you require member representation, may I suggest the "DEFENDANT in question, contact a Daniel_Pi for furthur advice. If money is no object, then may I suggest in obtaining the services of Alan Dershovites. I think I've got his number here Out of curiousity, is Mr Mashanator part of the same family as "Bass-O-Matic", from Saterday Night Live fame? However, the world doesn't always work "in theory" the way it works "in reality". Some members receive an "abuse warning" before any furthur action is warranted. The, "without notice" is perfectly legal but for the're own protection, (like body cameras), many staffs are using a newly installed "clokeking" device. Like meter maids. MY ADVICE? Stand up like a man. Go to jail. Grow a pair They will respect you when you return. Write a book. Talk to a priest. Admit guilt, (as these decisions are almost NEVER overturned). Take the plea bargain. Apologize, learn from it, move on, and try not to repeat said behavior. In closing, let me add one more observation. The forums are pretty liberal compared to live chess. If you even hint at bad manners in live, BANG, your gone. I've never been muted from live. I might put it on my bucket list thow I would like to take credit for advancing one thing on this site. Years before I got here, there was a muting list. Maybe 10-15 people out of 3 million. Now, muting is on a "velcro list" He's on, he's off, he's on, he's off, he's on, he's off. I believe that has made life a little easier for staff
Hello!
We've spoken with mashinator and all is well!
This type of post comes up all the time.
Please explain the current chess.com policies regarding notice when adverse action is taken.
When someone is muted, are they supposed to get a message with a specific reason for the action? (Beyond the always handy but not exactly clear "Terms of Service" violation. )
If not, why not?
BREAKING NEWS; If you have been OFFICIALLY muted for anything, you qualify for a purple heart You have shed blood for this site
