Go here. Click on "edit" next to My Status.

 Hi TadDude thanks for the reply I have tried the edit tab

but although it erases and I type a new message the old message

keeps on coming back

don't you just click on it and write something else?

EDIT: yeah i just changed mine. click on your status on your main page. write something and press ENTER. done.
