Tactics trainer freezing

Sort:
Colonelpaladin

This has been happening a lot lately.  If I get a move correct in the tactics trainer, it seems like a 50% chance that it will freeze, still saying it is my move but showing that I moved my peice.  really annoying as I have to exit and start a new tactic very often.

edit: extremely annoying, as it is only happening on correct moves my tactics score is totally askew, as I will lose points on the ones I lose yet on at least 50% of the tactics I would have won I get no score, as it freezes.  Plz someone help

I just upgraded my membership to utilize the tactics trainer and I am experiencing the same problem. It freezes up and I have to shut it down and open it back up to continue....

Yes, same problem. I posted elsewhere, but can't find a solution.

Anyone?

This is a support forum, no? If I am not posting to the right place, could someone please direct me. Tactics Trainer is not working for me and I want to know if there are issues with the site, or if I should be looking at my computer for answers.

Please advise.

what browser are you using? what kind of internet connection?

This is the other topic I saw recently about it. I didn't have any problems with TT yesterday with the 19 or so tactics I completed.

I just clear the cache and all cookies. Problem goes away for months.

I've had the same problem, and clearing the cache and cookies fixed it for me. When it did happen, I would immediately exit tactics trainer, and my TT rating would not be penalized.  Then upon restarting tactics trainer, it seems like 90% of the time, it would start with that same problem again.

Thanks for the feedback everyone.

1. Yes, I did the cache/cookie flush and it somewhat helped, but it appears again.

2. I tried on another computer. Same problem. One is XP and other is 7. Both have the problem.

hrmm. it's gotta be your internet. what provider? what speed? (try speedtest.net)

Erik,

I think I have a theory for the bug or potential bug. Here is the deal.

My mouse is on its last leg. It is so messed up, that it double clicks most of the time when I need a single click. It's goofy. But the logic is this and it could explain why some others get the issue. What might be happening is that when I go to move, I'm double clicking during the move and it's wigging out the code. I would be curious to see if anyone could duplicate. Try clicking radically when moving and see if you can get the system to stay on Your Turn while the time goes down.

I think this might be it, because even though I moved the piece and it went in the square I wanted, the computer wouldn't move. So instead of shutting down and restarting, I simply grabbed the computer's piece and moved it. I would try a bunch of pieces mind you until one of them caused the trainer to lose the Your Turn and say I was wrong, and show solution, or try again, etc.

I think it might be my mouse. Thus the code should be scrubbed to have better mouse handling and it would help prevent others from getting issues like this.

I am going to change my mouse out and report back. If the problem subsides, then I may be on to something.

Of course it could be because I changed the lightbulb in my office or the fact that I'm running my A/C a bit more, lol. On a serious note, I will check back.

Ok, I think I cracked the case. It was the mouse. So anyone having this issue needs to be careful to not double click their mouse or make irratic moves with the mouse. My mouse was fine with the exception of the accidental double clicking. So I put in a new mouse, and radically double clicked while moving (clicking and moving irratically) and got it to "freeze". It doesn't really freeze, rather the piece moves, but the board drawing is messed up (but you don't see that, thus you think it's frozen).

Ok, anyway, just be aware that flaky mouse movement and accidental double clicking, will lead to this issue. This is not to say other issues can't cause it, rather this one was caused by the double clicking.

Thanks all. Glad I was able to return with something that may help others. (oh, it also explains why the cache flush may be helping some. You are resetting the board underneath. Remember, that board is really just css/html. The code holds the location of the pieces, not the picture)

ParadoxOfNone

I have since changed my setting to not save browser history and to delete all cookies after a session, the tactics trainer is back to freezing. It only does it when I guess a move correctly, or as I finish a problem. Please fix this. I am absolutely frustrated...
