You don't start a forum thread. That falls into the "naming & shaming" ban.
Down at the bottom of the page there is a bunch of options.
Select HELP & SUPPORT
then when you go there, there's a CONTACT STAFF button in the upper right.

During a recent game? That player was last online on March 13, 2014.
Before you report a guy who last logged in more than a year ago, check the name.

https://support.chess.com/customer/portal/emails/new takes you to that option as well.
Thank you for your help, I have looked and looked for the help link but to no avail. Will continue looking (using android app if that makes a difference). And the name is correct, staff can check my game history, it was a live game of 10 minutes which ended when he timed out after sending me abusive pm's. Thank you for your help. :)

Looking at your game archive right now ... there is no opponent with that name in your list of games. If the player sent you PMs then you should be able to just get the name from there and/or screenshot it.
If it was in chat, screenshot it and provide the information to support (though, not here).
Not sure if there is a way to submit a ticket via the app; might have to do it through the web interface.
I found the person and the name you provided was incorrect. I sent you you a message about it. If you have information you can provide to staff, please open a ticket, as suggested above, and you should be able to provide that information there.
