I accepted an open game with redlegs. I noticed when the board appeared three moves had already been made and I was missing a pawn. The move that had been made on my part was not a move I would have made. I am confused and have been very down since this occurred. Please help.

Sounds wierd... were the moves part of the chriteria of the challange

Games that start where the first moves are made is called a Thematic game.  This is where the opening moves are already made. These games are set up this way by whoever creates the game

If for example you were playing  Kings Indian Attack, the game would start with the opening moves 1.Nf3 d5 2.g3
