Lessons learned in Blitz

Sort:

I play blitz to sharpen my mind in doing things quickly. However I have learned that I tend to move too fast and miss important moves. Also, I tend not to watch the clock, biggers numbers would help me because I could see them out of the corner of my eye. I have lost 25% of my games on time and most in a winning position. Finally, I have learned not to play one game after the other all day long (which I tend to do), because mistakes increase dramatically so what's the point? Did I mention I am 71 years old and slowing down.

I do the same...play to keep myself sharp (blitz that is).  Their is definately a creative tension between moving quickly on simple moves that one shouldn't be wasting time on yet also taking a second or third look before moving on others to avoid the infamous blunder.  I would say this however, I have learned to change my playing style mid-game for someone that is wasting time and play for a long game vs a win.  9 outta 10 times I win these games becuz the opponent runs out the clock.
