I guess is being honest and acting honestly the same thing or if that is even possible

I was given a take-home, closed-book exam in a college math class. I was a fairly honest student but the temptation was too much. Cheat I did. Good people will succumb to temptation when the stakes are high and the opportunity exists.
"Oh, what a tangled web we weave, when at first we practice to deceive."

Are white lies good? Such as, "No, that dress doesn't make your butt look big."
No one is honest, ever. Imagine a world in which everybody speaks the truth all the time. You don't have to lie to be dishonest either, think about your interactions with other people , how often do you fake a smile or a compliment? An honest man also needs a fast car and a shotgun at all times.
perfect example ,in real life you would not say it to my face for fear of having your teeth knocked down your throat, you would smile and wave politely. Only on the Internet can we be totally honest because without anonomity their is no honesty.
Give a man a mask and he will tell you the truth.
Thanks for augmenting my point.
Honesty is in one's conscience and heart. If you are dishonest you feel dishonest , do you not ?
Your soul feels tarnished when you reflect on your actions. In addition you begin to view and construe others in the same way you feel about yourself...thinking they are dishonest.
Essentially if you are proper person , when you do good you feel good. When you do bad you feel bad.
If you are dishonest - you are dishonest and cheating to yourself.
That's all that matters. People will sooner or later know what you are by your words , actions and deeds. (IMHO)
I think your name says it all...the biggest lie is telling yourself you are honest, or that you feel dirty when you lie.
What does ones anonymous name mean on a forum. Possibly the initial names that I'd chosen were all taken or unavailable on this forum.
Maybe you should think positively before you write to others that you obviously do not know.
There is a difference between real honesty and blow off answers. The question Josesph-S posed "Does my butt look big in this dress?" requires a blow off answer to just make through the day.
Now real honesty comes when let's say, outside of a store (or whatever) you find a womens wallet laying on the ground and no one is around. You look in it to see if has been dicarded and then see there is a sh#tload of money, credit cards, cell phone, and a drivers licence.
There is only two directions to go back into the lost and found or on your way.
Okay here is when real honesty happens. Let's say you drive a company truck around all day doing your job and it comes time go home and have to park the truck in a parking lot that belongs to the government and their employees.
You miss calculate when parking and dent a government employees personal car. Do you drive off and park a hundred yards away or do you leave a note to the poor sap and then tell the boss about it?
I (and Kant) am sure that honestly is the best policy.
But how do we know whether we are being honest?
