    Hi.

Thanks for the invite to the Group.

Nice to be with the locals.

    As an introduction:

Call me Poet.  I'm mostly an online player (FICS usually - closing in on 1600) , though am lucky to have a small circle of friends who play some otb with me.

I have been looking at clubs recently, but am poor and without transport at the moment, but its something I'll look at next year.

I've posted a couple of recent games in analysis if anyone wants to look through them, the first is terrible, the second is better but with a horrid ending.

As a request, I'd love to have some pgn's of any Copperworks games, especially games with Mike Farley (will never get used to seeing him called Mike).

Michael was my next door neighbour and taught me to play for my first Cub Scouts badge nearly 30 years ago now.

I know he's a strong player, but I've never been able to find any of his games to look through and would appreciate the chance if anyone has any.

    Anyway, Thanks and Hi!   Smile

    Hi Poet

I also know Mike Farley however, I don't remember ever playing him in a match. He currently plays in division 2 and I play in division 1, so I don't see myself playing him in the near future.

You mentioned joining a club possibly next year, where abouts are you based? I am also poor at the moment (after being made redundant), nor do I own my own transport however, we can (in many cases) offer transport home, provided one of our drivers lives in the same area. Also, there are no joining fees to just come a long and play some chess. There is only a fee to take part in the league but there's no reason why you cannot just come along and play some friendly games with us.

    Cheers

    Tony.

    Hi Tony.

    Thanks for the reply.

    Shame about the MF games.

I could contact him, they are still close family friends, but would much rather do some preparation first.

I don't think he'd ever live down being beaten by the snot-nosed kid that used to scratch his car with his bike all those years ago.   LOL!   Laughing

Sorry to hear about the redundancy, hell of a lot of it about at the moment....

I live in Headingly. Near the stadium.

I looked at your location - near St James right?

Not too bad to get to, and in better weather I'd happily cycle down (with 15 bike locks! heh) which is why I was thinking about next year.

Nice to know there's no fee.

Oh, and I quite enjoyed watching some of your training videos on youtube.

Though, the sound of the mic/mouse banging around was driving me nuts in the few I watched!

Did you sort that out in later videos?

Unfortunately I couldn't sort out the Mic as it's a built in one, I'm afraid. At some point I will purchase a decent one and switch that bugger off! Hah!

I think Mike plays 1.d4 as I seem to remember someone playing a Dutch against him once, you could maybe prepare a Benko Gambit or something to catch him out. He'll be getting on now, so an opening like that is bound to give him a hernia. Check it out!

Ah Headingley, there's one guy who plays with us from Headingley and he drives however, he plays for a different club on a Wednesday so he's not often here. Usually on a Saturday only.

Haha! Yeah we are near St James' Hospital, it's not the best of areas but don't worry, there's been no break ins :)

Anyway, would be nice to see you at some point. Let me know if you ever fancy coming along.

    Tony.
