Ivanchuk may not have played 39.Nxd6+ but the game might have lasted longer.  The idea of Cheparinov pushing down that e-pawn may have given him some drawing chances.  Forking the king and the rook of course secures the win a bit yet Ivanchuk have seen the position deeper.

On move 39 either knight had the fork. Why sac the first one? Ivanchuk's game

This is my wild guess...I hope this is Ivanchuk's gameplan: 39.Nxd6 is a very powerful Knight sacrifice, serving triple purpose: 1.) eliminate that d6-pawn blockade to allow the d5-pawn a clear way for promotion since the bishop on h4 is in control of the d8 square, 2.) upon removing the blockade, White is able to retain one of the knights, leaving him with huge material advantage, 3.) if Black continued with either 40...Kf6 or 40...Ke7, 41.Nxe4 is a discovered check, followed by capturing the bishop on d6, simplifying the position a full rook ahead down the endgame.

I'm actually backing Aronian there is nothing better at destroying your game then feeling unbeatable oh and I bet chucky is feeling just that.

I stake $50 imaginary dollars on it any takers?

Hopefully Ivanchuk will be able to control himself in this tournament. If he does that then this tournament is his, as many others still to come.

LOL, Did you see what Xiangzhi was doing? That guy may not be the best, but his games are always fun.

He should be called IvanChuckNorris after such a performance that seems more like he is roundhousekicking his opponents!!!

And the amazing thing is, Ivanchuk already has a huge plus score against aronian. Something like +5 in less than 20 games.

Chucky is on fire!! If he can beat Aronian in the next round, he will get a first game sweep against everyone!! Apparently his bad nerves haven't acted up too badly. In fact, it looked like he had nerves of steel in his last game because he played good defense against Cheparinov. He's one of my favorite players, so I hope he wins this trnt..
