On the final day of their rapid match in León, world champion Vishy Anand won again with the black pieces to complete a 4.5-1.5 victory over Alexei Shirov.

Once more Shirov's attacking intent foundered on the rocks of Anand's Caro-Kann defence.  Shirov's king was chased up the board and he resigned when checkmate was inevitable.

A great result for Anand, who came into the match as favourite, but could hardly have dared hope for such a convincing victory against a very dangerous opponent.

Are you taking notes, Boris?

Vishy Anand ended the match a comfortable winner by a score of 4.5-1.5
