magistral barcelona 2011 poster.jpgThe 2011 Magistral Casino Barcelona tournament took place from 12-20 October, and was won by Ivan Salgado Lopez with a score of 5½/8, just ahead of veteran Yasser Seirawan on tie-break.

20-year old Ivan Salgado is currently Spain's #3 ranked player after Paco Vallejo Pons and Alexei Shirov.

Another veteran campaigner, 56 year-old Kevin Spraggett of Canada had a good tournament, finishing in third place.  

The event was originally intended to include Eduardo Iturrizaga from Venezuela, but he withdrew after being involved in a car accident. He avoided any serious injuries.
