Kim-Kardashian.jpgThe model, actress and fashion designer Kim Kardashian caused a stir in chess circles yesterday when she tweeted, "I want to learn how to play chess. Wondering if Levon Aronian can teach me!"

The Armenian world #3 ranked player Lev Aronian is currently playing at the prestigious Tata Steel tournament in the Netherlands.  He re-tweeted Kim's plea but didn't respond.

Chess.com owner Erik Allebest was touched by Kim Kardashian's interest in the royal game and has offered to sponsor her chess tuition, recommending 21-year old US Grandmaster Sam Shankland as the ideal tutor!

So if you're reading this Kim, please tweet your interest to @chesscom and become part of the #1 online chess community!

Many people say if we don't know someone face-to-face, on a personal level, that we don't know them at all. Even if all we were to do was judge by an "image," her "image" could bring attention to chess, but in a trashy way. Considering we live in a predominantly trashy world...well...

We also didn't know Hitler or Osama Bin Laden face-to-face, and man, were they "celebrities." They may have liked puppies and kittens, could tell a good joke, and some women may have even considered them sexually attractive (?), but somehow I don't think they would've been a positive image for chess either, and they probably played it! The fact that someone is a "celebrity" doesn't mean it's positive attention.

As far as Kim and her "image" (though it's not image except for all the makeup; we see how she goes about most of her life), she hasn't harbored a terrorist cell or headed a holocaust, but what she has done is promoted exploitation, shallow living and thinking, capitalized on her fame which started with her porn film, and repeatedly gets married as often as she changes her false eyelashes so she can get pregnant in wedlock (as though this matters, considering how she's conducted herself; how absurd).

She's to be respected because she was able to "build an empire" and rake in exhorbitant amounts of money? It's only because she created a platform for herself by having a famous father, then with pornographic behavior, and then floated to the top of the trash heap because people are hungry for this kind of garbage. This isn't "fraudulent" and she didn't steal what millions of people gave her WILLingly, but it's not better by any stretch of the imagination, in my opinion. We have certainly become a society completely enamored with "all things shallow:" money, fame, power, toys of all kinds, and sex appeal, regardless of how they are achieved, by whom and what the long-term effects are. So, yeah, let's affiliate her with chess and Chess.com--the family site. And then, once she has a child and wants to teach him/her how to play chess, let's be SURE to use her and her child to promote ChessKID.com! Who wouldn't be all for THAT? People behave degenerately, then are ultimately idolized, immitated and sought after for all the shallow reasons. Are we using our heads here? If so, I'm inclined to ask which one?

"It amuses me and amazes me how people get so passionate about these things as I do not understand very well how people are interested in entities they only know vicariously.   Especially if they did not do anything particularly malicious to hurt other people.

I just hope that it isn't an alcoholic beverage next to her as she is pregnant."

    .....................................................................................

Actually, we really don't know much about anyone, do we? Sports Teams, Movies Stars, Entertainers, Singers etc...we really don't know any of them...yet we love/hate them, follow them like fleas, buy stuff because we want to look like them etc. We really don't know if they are murderers, rapists, child molesters, racists etc....until they become careless...and show their true selves...

I think the reason she asks for Levon Aronian in particular as opposed to one of the more famous GMs such as Carlsen is because apparently she too is of Armenian descent and so she asks for him because he is Armenian.

I think it was some guy called Hulk Hogan who once said "...don't matter whether you're the good guy or the bad guy, once they keep coming back for more...". I think she has done well to identify her assets (looks and popularity), and turned it into a Financial Empire in less than 10 years. We may not like all the things she does, but at least she does not climb the Financial Ladder by fraud, cheating, stealing other people's money, and other illegal activity like Lance Armstrong.

Be gentle people, any interest in the game is good for the sport.  Like they say bad publicity is good publicity.  And who is to say, that she isn´t a natural talent at chess.  Good move Kim !!!

The woman is borderline genius. She says she don't know how to play chess. So she sets the board up wrong and make an illegal move can everyone see the brilliance in that. And it's all to get people like us talking.Way to go Kim you did it again.Plus she have a 250$ board.

Just validates one of the main problems of our times, ie that brainless nobodies can and are claimed to be "celebrities" without contributing actually anything to this world. So sad that all the softa-gadgets permit them to stay at the centre of attraction, and there are people actually following them.
