Nakamura Wins San Sebastian

Submitted by SonofPearl on Thu, 07/16/2009 at 2:11pm.

He needed a tie-breaker to do it, but Hikaru Nakamura (pictured) has won the San Sebastian tournament in a dramatic finish.

Ruslan Ponomariov won his last round game against Francisco Vallejo Pons to catch Nakamura on 6.5/9 and force the 2-game rapid tie break, but Nakamura won both games.

A heartbreaking end for the Ukrainian, but a great breakthrough victory for Nakamura!

Qxe5 is an okay move, if Black captures the Queen, White can force mate in two moves.

Maybe I am missing something complety but in the second game above I do not understand move 33. Qxe5 followed by Kf7. Can someone explain this? For me it looks like a terrible blunder followed by a terrible blunder...
