Nov 2010 FIDE Rating List

  • SonofPearl
  • on Mon, 11/1/2010 10:01am.

When FIDE recently moved from quarterly rating lists to an increased frequency of every two months it presumably hoped that this would help the ratings stay more current.

Unfortunately for them, the calendar of elite chess events, such as it exists, does not divide neatly into quarterly, bi-monthly, or even monthly events.

So FIDE's latest official rating list which is published today does not include the results of the recently completed Nanjing event.  Which is good news for Vishy Anand, who thereby reclaims his official #1 status, despite Magnus Carlsen having already regained the top spot again in the unofficial live ratings.

The popular Armenian Lev Aronian leaps up to a career-high #3, with Vladimir Kramnik at #4 and Veselin Topalov slipping three places to #5.

One of the best methods for learning chess is "fighting" with a chess computer. The wisdom of this has been proven I think. What do you think? I enjoy this site very much.http://www.chessworldnook-shps.com/chess-computers/

By next week, all the Carlsen G-Raw posters will be replaced with Anand ones. Vishy's fierce scowl should be something to behold.

People should not be complaining when FIDE is actually following its own regulations. It is NOT a matter of just one tournament, as if your deadline is one day before the list is published, it will have to apply for all tournaments, not just Nanjing. The list needs to be double-checked and error-free. If anything, the fact that they have lowered their process-time to just one week should be recognized and welcomed.

    Best wishes,
    Jon Ludvig

I'd be interested to also see a top-20 (or so) seniors list, i.e., active players above a certain age, say above 55...  That's a statement of chess longevity.

I imagine that Anatoly Karpov is probably still heading that list, and not far behind would be Viktor Korchnoi, who is just about 80 years old by now...

Wow, Anand reclaims his crown. Poor Topalov, slipped 3 places. Go Wesley!

Ratings measure form; the World Championship determines the world's best player.

That Anand, in this release, is both World Champion and #1 in ratings, just shows that the world's best player is also in good form:)

There was really no time to add nanjing tournament to this list. according to regulations this rating list is completely valid.

Magnus Carlsen can't be too happy after hearing this.

Right now only Three Chess Player above 2800.

The Elo rating is important, but being a WC is more important!

So, for those who upset because MC isn't Rank No 1 Player, please be patient until He prove it thats His a WC!!.

Its worth noting that Carlsen would have lost the #1 rating spot after ugh...London, Corus I don't remember which. Some other major tournament earlier this year, where when it was finished, he had slipped to second, but it wasn't included in the next rating list. Then he regained top spot before the next list. So not including Nanjing is a little goofy, but Carlsen has been helped by this goofiness before.

Wow this list doesnt include Nanjing?

Wow.. This list is a joke, so is FIDE, they cant seem to get anything right.. I mean how complicated is it to add the rating from ONE tournament from TWO days ago.
