  • on 3/1/12 1:46 PM.

The 2012 Tal Memorial will be held from 7-19 June in Moscow, and the six confirmed players so far are: Magnus Carlsen, Vladimir Kramnik, Lev Aronian, Teimour Radjabov, Hikaru Nakamura and Fabiano Caruana.

Another four places have to be filled, but this year the organisers have decided to let the great chess public decide who will fill ONE of the remaining coveted entry spots.

Before you get carried away thinking you can vote for yourself or your best mate Wink, the choice must be made from a list of 13 12 players:

 Mamedyarov, Shakhriyar AZE 2752
 Kamsky, Gata  USA 2741
 Adams, Michael  ENG 2735
 Wang, Hao  CHN 2733
 Ponomariov, Ruslan  UKR 2727
 Giri, Anish  NED 2717
 Polgar, Judit HUN 2709
 Jobava, Baadur  GEO 2706
 Shirov, Alexei LAT 2701
 Sutovsky, Emil  ISR 2700
 Le, Quang Liem  VIE 2698
 McShane, Luke J ENG 2691
 Hou, Yifan CHN 2639

Voting is now open, and will continue until 15:00 UTC on 15 March.

To cast your vote go to the Russia Chess website here, and make your choice in the bottom panel of the right hand column.

Wow, really tight between Luke, Mamedyarov and Shirov at the moment. I wonder if Luke would accept the place if he wins this vote - anyone know?

@ shearoff - if you go to the page, and scroll down you should see the list of players in the right hand side panel (written in English as well as Russian). Select the player you want to vote for and then click the button underneath to sumbit.

I am unable to vote.  I am also unable to read Klingon (I used an authentic Star Trek poster to confirm the origin of the cryptic symbols).  Any help in voting method?

thats such a shame for quiem... but on the plus side - mcshane is up there, then shirov, then mamedyarov - unless i'm blind - so thats three great choices heading the list!

Le Quang Liem has now been removed from the list of options!

There was a sudden massive spike in the number of votes he had received which made him the clear leader from being nowhere, so I suspect some 'fan' had managed to fix the voting and the organisers have decided to remove Le from the list! Laughing

At the top of the current vote totals it's very close between McShane, Shirov and Mamedyarov.

As a humble submission in favour of Luke McShane I offer this great win against Carlsen from a couple of years ago. Remember he works full time, and that London Classic was, I think, his first proper tournament in quite a long time.
