Belgian-born American Grandmaster George Koltanowski (1903-2000)  tells this anecdote which begins during the XIX Chess Olympiad at Siegen,in the former West Germany in 1970. As co-captain of the U.S. team one thing he had to do was to watch closely the spectators looking for camera fans who might have flash bulbs and therefore disturb the American players in their concentration;of course the table which kept him more busy was Bobby Fischer's table. One spectator had attracted his atention, a German lady around her fifties',grey -haired and well dressed and who rarely spoke to anyone. Day by day she attended each and everyone of the games in progress of Bobby even the adjourned ones, and when he did not play she wasn't there at all.The Olympiad was finishing and early one day in which Fischer had to finish an adjourned game against Vlastimil Hort of Czechoslovakia, Koltanowsi and Fischer ran into her at the entrance gate of the playing hall, out of curiosity he left Bobby to find his own way to his board, and after introducing himself he adressed to her by saying: "-I can't help wondering why you are here following every game of Robert Fischer,do you play chess?" She calmly responded: "- I play very little.I am only here to watch Bobby Fischer and nothing else.I expect you will not understand;years ago,I had a son who was a genius according to the chess magazines of those days.He died young,in a political brawl at the chess club.He was my only son.For a few years now,I have been a widow, and have turned to spiritualism and my son has asked me on innumerable occasions to see the great American chess Genius in action. That is the reason for this daily pilgrimage here." She finished.  Koltanowski continues:"-She left me standing there, wondering what her son's name could be??. Fischer finished all his games in the Olympics, and the lady...disappeared.I never saw her again." (TO BE CONTINUED...)
