there should be an effort to remove all 1700 + players from the tournament , else theres no point playing here and waiting for so many months

i believe the tournament was supposed to be for players between 1400-1600 , but i find players with 1900 + rating in it . let me write to the moderators abt this and find out why mention the tournament as for 1400-1600 . rather mention it as open , so players like me would rather not join

Hey there. Me and Zummy will get EXACT the same points and we won against each other as white. Zummy got the higher ELO. So who will advance?

Attention, everyone, slowpoke's vacation just ended!  The next round of the tournament should start soon!

The seeding issue can be addressed simply by forfeiting anyone on vacation in Round 1 whose game will affect seeding.

Also, to add insult to injury, the player on vacation in group 115 (though not the other vacationers holding up the tournament, who've been gone since October) logged in today! He is clearly available and just doesn't deign to play (and lose).

I'm actually ok with guys using vacation time during tourneys. One or two weeks rarely makes any difference. However, when people use one or two months, the proper term is "sabbatical" and they should just resign. I wish chess.com had some sort of limit to how much vacation time could be used in a single game.

bcse of few losers who put themselves on vacation seems all the remaining players who have finished their games faster need to wait and forget round 2 for a few months . so guys see u next year

The only qualm I have with starting the next round is: how are the seeds picked for the next round? If they depend on points earned in the previous round, then we need to wait until those people moving on to finish all of their matches (aka groups 64, 89). As for the matches that don't matter for that, I'm all for running the rounds in parallel. :)

Of the 8 Games that are left:

There are 3 players who are holding up the 8 games between them in vacation mode

*The person in group 64 is holding up 4 games, none of which change the outcome of his bracket (that is, no matter what happens in those games, the person who is advancing is decided.

*The person in group 67 is holding up 2 games, none of which change the outcome of his bracket.

*The person in group 89 is holding up 2 games, it appears as if he's advancing to the next round regardless, due to his tiebreaker status.

So basically, we know who's advancing in every group.  Let's get on with this!

Poorly organised tournament.  Why does someone have to wait for all the games in their group to qualify for the next round, when there's no chance of them being caught up.  Start round 2, and have the remaining round 1 games in parallel.

There are no active games remaining--only ones with players on vacation.

What's more, the player in group 115 who just went on vacation (and is not advancing to round 2) has had a losing position for weeks (down to K v K + R now), and has spent them making one move per day at hour 20+ before going on vacation today. It would be a travesty to stretch this tournament out almost into 2013 for his sake.

Whether to forfeit the vacationers or not before starting round 2 can be a matter of discretion, but waiting for them to finish their games before starting round 2 is insulting to the rest of the field.

Agreed. The vacation option is a luxury and in most "quick" tournaments not allowed. Sometimes unexpected things arrive when you find yourself without Internet; however, it should be used with discretion. Kurgan said it... just rude.

"Only players who play their games QUICKLY"  hehe, I bought it.

I won't give my remain game up, just because he's on vacation.

Thank you.  I don't mind people taking their time if they need it to play a good game, but taking long vacations during a tournament is just rude.

players in group 64 , 67 , 89 are on vacation . why do such players join games . turtles

There are several tournaments open to a smaller number of players. There is still a chance of someone holding them up, but it's not so likely.

You guys complain too much.  Sure, I'd like round 2 to start now, but I'm not surprised.  It's basic statistics- if you have a large group of people, a few will finish very fast, a few will take a long time, and the bulk will be in the middle.  Be glad it's not like last tournament, where one guy used all 45 days of his vacation time and the entire tournament had to stop while waiting for him to come back.  That guy should be banned.  Anyway, there are lots of other tournaments you can join while you wait. I've got two others I'm active in right now!  You can complain, or you can find something productive to do with your time!
