In chess, the Sicilian Defence, Alapin Variation is a response to Sicilian Defence distinguished by the moves 1. e4 c5 2. c3. It is named after Semyon Alapin.

It is considered as one of the more solid and respectable Anti-Sicilians and is championed by grandmasters such as Evgeny Sveshnikov, Eduardas Rozentalis and Drazen Sermek. It has in the past been played by Vladimir Kramnik, Garry Kasparov, Veselin Topalov and Viswanathan Anand.

my lord. i have forgotten about this tournament.  it appears we will move to round 2 shortly. my previous post discussed a coffee shop where i would use the alapin for a bunch of sicilian players..... i have moved to a different city twice since thenTongue out

I don't understand this. One player in my group is playing 6 games, while two others are only playing 5 games, and me and someone else are only playing 4 games. Doesn't look fair if you ask me, that way I can never have enough wins as other players. Can someone explain this?
