This tournament is for everyone who wants to toy with various replies to 1. e4 c5, except 2. Nf3. Every game begins at the second White move, and White can play any move he or she wants, just not 2. Nf3

As long as White doesn't play 2. Nf3 it's okay. So everything from Closed Sicilian (2. Nc6), to the wicked Myers Attack (2. a4) is just dandy.

Let's have fun, and see how we can smash Black's Sicilian Defense with White, or brush off White's offbeat second move with a solid Black reply.

Please do not enter this tournament, if you insist on playing 2. Nf3.

Disqualifications

cigoL | Nov 23, 2011, 12:36 PM

Hi everyone, Smile

As announced earlier, I had planned to disqualify and withdraw the players who didn't follow the non-2. Nf3 premise of the tournament. Unfortunately, I turns out that I cannot withdraw players from the tournament as long as they have unfinished games.

Naturally, it's only fair these players are disqualified and removed from the tournament, so everyone (the vast majority) who played according to the rules can enjoy it. I have therefore asked the Chess.com support staff for help withdrawing the uncompliant players.

So, for now, if you are playing someone who played 2. Nf3, please keep playing (random moves, if you wish), so you do not run out of time, until the Chess.com support finds a solution to this.

On an good note, some of the players who played 2. Nf3 have politely resigned their 2. Nf3 games. I wish the others would do the same, as a courtesy to the players who played according to clearly stated premise. Smile

See you at the boards!

Last thing about 2. Nf3

cigoL | Nov 22, 2011, 7:05 PM

Okay, I've been told that players cannot see my comments on the game pages while the game is still on. So, everyone playing someone who played 2. Nf3, please copy/paste the following (in red) in the chat window on the game page:

You played 2. Nf3, and will - according to the rules of this tournament - have to resign, to avoid disqualification. Please resign now. See the tournament page for more info regarding this. On behalf of the tournament leader, cigoL

Thanks!

With this, I truly hope this issue will be solved once and for all. Smile

2. Nf3 status

cigoL | Nov 22, 2011, 4:40 PM

Hi again everyone,

I've now looked over all the games currently being played in the tournament. Except for a handful of players, everyone is playing non-2. Nf3 moves! Smile

I have posted a comment on the game pages to the players who played 2. Nf3, asking them to resign, to avoid being disqualified.

If you are involved in a game against someone who played 2. Nf3, but do not see a comment from me in the comment section below the board, please send me a message (as I might have missed it).

Time is ticking, and this is a 24-hour/move tournament, so I will have to disqualify the players who played 2. Nf3 tomorrow. I will do so in about 12 hours from now, unless they resign, and so stay in the tournament.

There are some rather funky openings being played, with 2. Qh5 probably being the wildest! Surprised Good stuff, people!

Have fun, and good luck to you all!

The tournament has started!

Hi everyone! Smile

Finally! Best of luck to you all.

Please report players who play 2. Nf3, and they will be disqualified, unless they choose to resign the game(s) in which they played 2. Nf3. If they resign they will still be in the tournament, if not: it's over and out

It will be interesting to see which players (and openings) score best at the end of the tournament.

See you at the boards, Smile
