Update: Current State Of Chess.com Clubs
Hello club admins, we wanted to share an update on the current state of clubs development. At this point, we’ve mostly completed a sprint to address the most pressing issues around clubs that you’ve shared and which we’ve identified. In October, we shared an update, and we’ve been able to address most of the outlined issues as well as dozens of other tickets with large and small bugs and usability issues. I've updated the previous post to indicate the current status on those tickets.
One major update in progress that we want you to know about is regarding toaster notifications for clubs. Admins have noted a variety of issues with these notifications, and the development team has been working on a new notification service to handle these. It should improve this experience once fully released, and it will start rolling out this week. As with any new release, there may be unexpected issues so please do share any that you encounter! In the coming months, we will also be adding toaster notifications for upcoming club events which we hope will help increase turnout for your events.
To summarize the major issues we have released fixes and updates for in recent months:
- We've added protections against mutes for club admins and added a priority support queue for club admins. (If you experience issues, please let us know.)
- We've made a number of updates regarding issues club admins experienced after the prior redesign. We've expanded the club description and added a club sidebar, both to make it easier to communicate with your club members. We've also changed the way that events lists are displayed, the way the number of participants in matches are displayed, and added other fixes/improvements.
- Various bug fixes. In total since August, we have completed 88 tickets relating to clubs.
- We've purged our database of various broken challenges and notifications. Please let us know if any persist for you.
- We've made a lot of updates to Multi-Club Arenas. We shared those updates in a post and are reviewing comments. PLEASE test our Multi-Club Arenas, and let us know of any issues. It's difficult for us to fully test Multi-Club Arenas, and we depend on information from those of you who are using them to identify issues.
At this point, we have almost completed processing the prioritized tickets from our queue, and we anticipate focusing on other projects soon. We will continue to fix major bugs as they emerge, but new features and other quality of life improvements that we would like to do will mostly be on hold for now.
Please let know of major issues you are still experiencing, and/or major suggestions you have for future consideration, and I, JD, and our team will always be monitoring issues in this club and in tickets and working with you to address them.
