ArcInformer/Mar2016
Hello everyone, SA Atomic_Rift here just to give you a few updates on what's happening here at the ARC. I'll break this up into simple sections so you can skip over what you don't care about.
World League 2.0 - The World League turned out far better than I could have ever hoped for. Beautiful layout, bright colours and a whole new system of inspiration for helping out the ARC. However, I can't help but feel sorry for EragonShadeslayer03 because he was so looking forward to Chess Kingdoms more than anybody else (Chess Kingdoms was replaced with the World League). That is why I'm announcing World League 2.0 already. I cannot go into full detail right here and now, but I will give you a summary of the new features in World League 2.0:
- Country Leaders
- Country vs Country
Okay, that doesn't look like much. But trust me, it'll be worth it. For those interested in a more complex World League please let me know so I can know how big a crowd I'm looking at. For those not wanting to move on with the World League for whatever reason please PM me and I'll take into account what you have to say; no opinion is too small in the ARC.
Scoreboard 2.0 >>> Scoreboard 1.0 - I'm continually getting asked, "What does XP stand for?", "What does 15/20 mean?", "How does this New Scoreboard work?" and "Help! I still don't know how it works!" The whole point of ARC 3.5 (somewhere in that timezone) was to make the ARC more user friendly... especially the Scoreboard. I guess I was trying to make something that I preferred rather than what you preferred, I'm sorry. That's why I'm reverting it back to when it was simple, simple. It was just about the club matches, the Top 3 of all time were awarded their trophies every month and the Top 3 members that worked the hardest that month also got trophies. No more confusion with Levels and XP and working the Vote Chess in with the Club Matches so it was fair. If you are saddened because you are an advanced ARC member, don't worry, World League 2.0 is coming soon for you.
10 Minute Vote Chess? - This is something I've been wanting to do with the ARC for years... or 12 seconds ago. I've always had the idea of spending an entire Saturday playing a vote chess game with members dropping in and out, here and there, but have never been able to do it before with the fear of getting a timeout (why's that funny?). Whether you're a Scoreboard person looking for some easy XP, or a World League guy looking to put another point on the board, you'll want to mark your calendars for April 2nd, 12:00 PM, US/Central time. Here's the time zone converter that worked best for me: http://www.timezoneconverter.com/cgi-bin/tzc Hope to see you there.
Admin Abuse - Although I'd like to think the best about my admins, I do need to face facts. I never know what could happen with 28 admins on the loose. I know that's way too many and that's why I'm coming up with a solution to distinguish the good admins from the... um, let me word this carefully so I don't offend anyone... lackadaisical slouches. If there is an admin who troubles you and you do not want me finding out who you are, then feel free to fill out the survey supplied in the link below.
Random Funny - Happy National Lemon Chiffon Cake Day!! (what a mouthful)
It happens every March on the 29th. Make sure not to enjoy yourself too much now...
Back to What's Important - So what do you think of all of this? Are you happy the World League is moving on? Maybe you're unhappy the Scoreboard is being simplified?? Or maybe you're wondering if Atomic_Rift will ever grow up??? I won't do anything without knowing your opinion first, so I encourage you to take the survey at the official ARC website to help us betterfy your chess club experience: http://atomicrift1.wix.com/chessarc
Thank you for taking the time to read another edition of the ArcInformer! I hope you have a great day!
