BC Open 2018 - $3250 guaranteed minimum prize fund!

Hey, happy New Year everyone! With a new year comes a new season of chess competition in greater Vancouver. As per recent tradition, the BC Open will be held on BC Family Day long weekend (Feb. 10-12) in Richmond. This year will see a massive 60% increase in the guaranteed minimum prize fund, bringing it up to $3250! Players at all rating levels will have a chance to win some decent coin.  Due to limited space, this years event will be limited to 140 players, so be sure to register early. There's a good chance on-site registration will not be available. Full details courtesy of the tournament website:

Location: Executive Airport Plaza Hotel, 7311 Westminster Hwy, Richmond, BC (10 minute walk from Brighouse skytrain station)

Sections: Premier (CFC & FIDE rated), U1900, U1500, U1100 (CFC rated)

$3,250 Minimum Guaranteed Prize Fund:

• Premier $600/$400 U2000 $150 Top BC player qualifies for BC Closed
• U1900 $300/$200 U1700 $150
• U1500 $300/$200 U1300 $150
• U1100 $300/$200 U1000 $150
• Top Unrated (best score in any section) $100/$50
• Prizes will be distributed by PayPal, electronic transfer or mail within 48 hours 

Entry Fee: $60 on or before Jan.5, $70 on or before Feb. 2, $85 before noon on Feb. 9. $20 to play up a section if rating within 100 points, $30 if within 200 points. $20 discount for 2nd and subsequent entries from same family. 

Free entry for GM/IM/WGM if entered by Jan. 5

Time Control: Game/90 +30 sec. increment

6 Rounds: Sat. 12:00 noon, 5:00pm Sun. 10:00am, 3:00pm Mon 10:00am, 3:00pm

Accommodation: Executive Airport Plaza Hotel 604-278-5555, $129 single/double (mention BC Open Chess when booking). Free parking for guests. $7/day for other players (purchase tickets at tournament registration desk).

Misc:

CFC membership required.  Annual $38/$25 adult/junior (good for one year), OR tournament membership $16/$8 adult/junior (good for one event) available on registration.

Free tournament membership to first-time players in U1100 Section.
