Victoria Open 2018
Hey everyone, the next major tournament in BC will take place this 12-14 January in beautiful Victoria! For those Vancouverites willing to make the trip, the Victoria chess club always puts on first class events. The early bird registration deadline is coming up right away (Dec. 12) so make your plans now. In addition to the open tournament, BC vs. Washington and Vancouver vs. Victoria matches will be played by top local players. Details courtesy of the tournament website:
Location: Comfort Inn and Suites, 3020 Blanshard Street, Victoria
Sections: 5 round Swiss with Premier and U1600 sections - CFC rated
Prizes: Trophies and $2000. $800 for Victoria Open. Tiebreaks (for trophies) will be announced.
Entry Fee: $50 up to Dec 12th, then $60 up to Jan 11th. $75 on site up to 5pm on Jan 12th. Free entry for GM/IM/WGM. $10 per player family discount for multiple entries same family. Victoria Open play up fee $20 (lifetime high above 1499)
Time Control: Game/90+30 sec. increment
5 Rounds: Fri 6pm, Sat 10am and 3pm, Sun 10am and 3pm

- CFC membership required. BC residents annual fee $38 adult, $25 junior. Available from the CFC, with online registration or on site. Alternative: tournament membership (TM) $16 adult $8 junior (good for this event only). Free TM for new unrated (CFC/USCF/FIDE) players
