Bhowmick a Winner at National K-12!
Ishaan Bhowmick, one of our most active PCS Chess participants, played in the National K-12 Championship Dec 3-5 in Orlando. In his group (2nd Grade, Ratings 600 – 799), Ishaan won! Overall, Ishaan was #28 out of 90 2nd Grade U.S. participants. I caught up with Ishaan during the holidays.

Ishaan Bhowmick: When I saw my father playing chess.
GEA: Who has helped you in your chess journey?
IB: My Dad and my chess teachers.
GEA: How many rated tournaments have you played in?
IB: Maybe 10 or more.
GEA: I understand there were a total of 90 2nd graders at the Orlando tournament. How many games did you play?
IB: Two the first day, then three, then two on the last day.
GEA: What was the time control?
IB: One hour 30 minutes.
GEA: Do you have a long-term chess goal?
IB: Yes, to improve a lot!
GEA: Do you have any questions for me?
IB: Yes – Why aren’t more people playing in PCS Chess tournaments?
GEA: That’s a great question. Hopefully more will start playing over the holidays!
