Rosenthal Performs Well in Gainesville Debut
The recent February 19 John G. Harris Chess Championship at the University of Florida had about eight Pinellas participants, including PCS Chess member Jacob Rosenthal, a student at Jacobson Tech High School in Seminole. It was Rosenthal's first rated tournament and his first OTB tournament, and he did quite well. The tournament had about 125 players divided into Open, U1600, and U1000 groups.
Rosenthal scored 4/5 in the main event (30|5), winning top scholastic player (out of about 15 students). He also tied for 3rd out of 34 U1000 players and won $80. In addition, Rosenthal participated in the open blitz (3|2) and scored 3.5/7, in the middle of the pack.
When asked what he enjoyed the most about the tournament, Jacob responded, "Playing over the board against serious opponents!"
We wish Jacob continued success in all his chess endeavors!
