Welcome to the biggest event in the Chess.com blogosphere!

Welcome to the ultimate showdown!

Welcome to Blog Bowl VIII!

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Let's make some noise for our two finalists as they enter the blogging arena!

Representing the Southern Conference, straight from Brazil, we have a judo black belt and passionate chess blogger, born on 29 September 1993. Participating in the competition for the first time, she has immediately made her mark by winning the #1 seed in Week 1 of the qualifiers. Then, just like on the mat, she has beaten many tough opponents on her way to the final, through hard work, sweat, and dedication. Let's give a big hand to Leticia, our beloved @PokeGirl93!

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Representing the Northern Conference, from one of the coldest countries in the world, straight from Canada, this man has survived grizzly and polar bears, moose, three metres of snow, and four intense rounds of BlogChamps. Also seeded #1, but in Week 2, he has gone through many challenging matches and is now ready to replace his bronze medal from Season 7 with the coveted trophy in Season 8. Please accept our greetings, @RookMindset!

THE GAME

It’s time!!!

The referee blows her whistle, and the big final game has finally begun! The crowd in the stands goes euphoric, the noise is deafening, the atmosphere is wild!

@PokeGirl93 did not disappoint her fans, writing another wonderful blog in which she shares some of the most fascinating and amusing chess-related stories in the world. There are anecdotes from grandmasters, world champions, criminals, and even a special one about her family! All of this combined with her amazing editing skills, as well as her usual great writing and strong narrative abilities. I'm sure you will enjoy the reading. Check it out and have fun!

For a worthy bowl event, we obviously have a halftime show!

Back to the game, the second half begins!

@RookMindset lived up to his reputation as a semi-finalist in the last edition, producing a great post about high-level chess players who combined brilliance on the board with their activities on the railway network. The blog recounts the fascinating stories of lesser-known individuals and their remarkable accomplishments, despite not devoting themselves exclusively to the game. Read on to find out more about them! An excellent blog that will certainly entertain you!

RESULT

And who wins? I know you came here to find out! Well, believe me, this was an extremely difficult decision to make, and I think they both deserve it so much, not only for their amazing final blogs but also for their overall performance throughout this unforgettable season!

But if you think I'm going to make the same joke as last time and say they will share the title, you're wrong! That would be far too predictable. This time, as the judges could not choose a winner, we simply decided that nobody would take the trophy.

Did you really think it was a joke?

This also means the poor air traffic controller writing this text does not have to pay any prizes! It's a great solution — that way, no one loses the competition... or money!

My precious!

No, just kidding... I am not such a cheapskate! @JustGettingThisOffMyChess maybe is. I am not!

After many sleepless nights, several headaches, and a great deal of effort to reach a fair decision, the judges have chosen the winner of Season 8. The lucky blogger who will take home the coveted Zachary Isaac Snow II Trophy, as well as the mega prize of $25 and a one-month premium membership, is:

FINAL CEREMONY

Congratulations! You have had a wonderful season, inspiring many people with your great blogs and entertaining us all at every stage. This trophy is just the icing on the cake of your amazing run!

To the runner-up, whoever you are, because I am obviously writing this before I know it, be proud of yourself and remember that some of the best bloggers in this club were also silver medalists, like @SheldonOfOsaka, @alphaous, @nbrasington, @AstroTheoretical_Physics, and that Kiwi girl whose name I forgot due to her irrelevance. So you're in good company and can be proud of what you've done! I really hope you both become Top Bloggers in the near future!

And to everyone who participated in this season, we hope you enjoyed the competition and had fun! Unfortunately, only one can win in the end, but you were all part of something great! We would love to see you all try again and come back even stronger in Season 9!

Below you can find the final bracket of Season 8:

SEASON 9 REGISTRATION

And now we can start preparing for Season 9. Below is the link to the registration forum:

Season 9 Registration

Season 8 was great, and we hope to make the next one even more special. To do this, we need as many people as possible to put in their maximum effort and submit the best blog they can! Please also let us know how likely you are to submit a blog, on a scale from 0 to 10, just so we have a rough idea.

FAQ

1) When will Season 9 start?

This can be changed, but my current suggestion would be the last week of July, which would give us enough time to rest after this exhausting season, and also to recruit new people willing to show their work!

Also, hosting Week 1 in July and Week 2 in August gives participants the chance to use their blogs for The Blogger Awards 2.0 competition in different months.

But anyway, you don't need to wait and can already register now if you want!

     ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

2) What about the format and prizes?

My idea is to keep the same format and prizes for Season 9. However, there will soon be a feedback forum for Season 8 where I will be open to suggestions. Anyway, I will post an announcement two weeks before it starts to explain everything once the details are set.

     ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

3) I hate Vanessa and hope she is not motivated to manage another season. Will she finally get out of this sh*?

I have bad news for you. However, there is a chance I will leave the announcements to someone else. Nevertheless, I will remain responsible for harassing the competitors, posting the forums, and organizing everything, such as the rules and deadlines.

       ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

That's all, folks! As always, I'm open to questions in the comments or via DM.

I'll see you back in Season 9!

*Thanks to @AstroTheoretical_Physics for the thumbnail for this announcement!
