Chess Lesson: Intermediate Moves

An intermediate move is when you play a move that postpones an obvious move like a capture. Here is an example;

White plays 1.Bc4 attacking the queen, but black plays an intermediate move 1... Re1 threatening 2... Re8# if not stopped. Now you know what an intermediate move is.
