Chessical PROdigies NSPBCL Week 3: Another Win!
In week 3 of the Not-So Pro Blitz Chess League, the Chessical PROdigies faced one of their toughest tests of the season in that of the Dream Team Destroyers, a team that has a statistically good shot to win this league. As was the case in our previous two matches, we looked to have a tremendous advantage on boards 5 and 6, but the top 4 boards were not as clear. It was set to be a good one, a classic, and perhaps (hopefully) a Finals preview! Let's see what happened.
The match started on board 6, where the undefeated @neatgreatfire continued his perfect season with a 4-0 victory over @Dark_Knight_DK14, captain of the Dream Team Destroyers. The funny thing is, Dark actually predicted in his club's forums that we would win this match! https://www.chess.com/news/view/s4-w3-finals-preview-dtd-vs-cp Honestly, it's nice to see that he thinks so highly of us, and a bit surprising tbh. Nevertheless, we can't let it go to our head's of course ![]()
Next up was board 3, where @winyou01 took on @Jebediah_mushroom. Despite being lower rated by about 80 points, winyou managed to *checks notes* win 4-0! Yeah, uh no joke, he actually won 4-0 over someone higher rated then him. Not only did he win all 4, he really just destroyed him. For real, it was a dominant performance. After getting 4-0ed in week 1, winyou has bounced back very well for us, losing only once in the last 2 matches. Here is their fourth game, after which they both had identical 1732 blitz ratings.
Well, once again we had ourselves an 8-0 lead. This time the win was all-but guaranteed, since we were likely getting a 3rd 4-0 on board 5. Next up was @acastelino, playing yet another higher rated opponent, in @hvenki, on board 4. Yet again, acas came through for us and got 1.5 points, making it all-the more likely we would win.
Alright, make that score 9.5-2.5! 9.5 seems to be our magic number; In each match so far, we have held 9.5-2.5 leads before winning the match! What a coincidence
. Next up was @Tebow2Baker, on board 5, taking on @25GSchatz22. Given that Tebow is undefeated, and is higher rated by 450 points, we could almost taste victory. All he had to do was win 3 games and we would clinch victory. But of course, why win 3 when you can win 4? Yes, Tebow won 4-0, making this the 3rd 4-0 win for us in the match! Incredible! Here is one of Tebow's games, which he annotated.
At this point we are up 13.5-2.5. It's already over. But still, there are more games to be played. On board 1, @LightningChess21 took on @TanitoluwaAps116, the 9-year-old chess prodigy from New York. To say I was terrified would be an overstatement, but uh yeah I wasn't feeling so confident. Regardless, I was looking forward to playing this kid, I mean, he could be a world champion someday
Thankfully, by the time we played, we had already won the match, so I was able to play for fun. I did end up tying with him 2-2, but hopefully next time I'll just play good instead...
Well, how about that! I managed to beat him! One day I'll be able to tell my grandchildren about this
Moving on, the match score is now 15.5-4.5. Pretty sweet, eh? With the final match being on board 2, the result didn't even matter. So that's why I am about to tell you what happened! @luisen17 was outrated by about 350 points, on board 2, playing @Chessisfunforme, someone who is higher then me! Despite this fact, luisen did manage to steal a win -- and in 19 moves, at that!
With this, the match concluded, as we, the Chessical PROdigies, possessed a powerful 16.5-7.5 lead, meaning we will improve to 3-0 and possibly sit atop the leaderboards soon! This was definitely our most dominant performance yet, but....was it our best? In terms of score, for sure it was. In terms of rating differences? I dunno, our week 1 win was pretty impressive. Whatever you think, it all adds up to this: YO! WE ARE LEGIT!!!! For real, we have a nice chance to win it all, we aren't 3-0 by mistake, we have been up 9.5-2.5 3 times now! SO yeah, let's keep it up, let's roll into week 4! We've got the momentum, we've got the confidence, we've got the players, we've got the balance, and we even have a super awesome captain who makes weekly reports and stuff! lol jk, but you get the idea. Let's keep it up, team. As always, I'll be that guy who reminds you all to.....stay humble. We don't want to implode after all. But of course, a little confidence is required now ![]()
Cya in the notes and comments!
