Palo Alto, Calif., March 16, 2021—Chess.com is teaming up with Susquehanna International Group, LLP (SIG) to present one of the most anticipated Chess.com events this year, the 2021 Bullet Chess Championship.
"At SIG, we have always highly valued strategic thinkers who look to improve their performance against the best competition. We are excited to team up with Chess.com, a destination for those people," said Todd Simkin, an Associate Director working in trader development and education at SIG. "It is a pleasure to work with an organization that shares our dedication to education, continued progress, strategic analysis, and results-oriented discipline."
This year's championship has an increased prize fund of $25,000 and is set to begin with qualifiers on March 31st and April 1st and the main event April 5-7. Reigning champion, GM Hikaru Nakamura, will look to defend his title against the best bullet players Chess.com has to offer including GMs Daniel Naroditsky and Andrew Tang. Fans of the event will remember GM Alireza Firouzja, who challenged Nakamura in the 2019 quarterfinals and faced the American again in the 2020 finals. Since 2019, the 17-year-old Iranian super-talent has consistently gained rating points in standard chess and has jumped into the world's top 15.
Like last year's event, the 2021 Bullet Chess Championship presented by SIG will have a qualifier for Chess.com's top bullet players. Further information will be released at a later date.
"Teaming up with an established company like SIG is an important step for Chess.com's continuing strategy of bringing commercially-viable collaboration into chess," said Austin Gasparini, Director of Business Development of Chess.com. "We're looking forward to this collaboration being the first of many between Chess.com and SIG."
