Despite Ian we are ready to go – signup now for DHLC Long Time Control Tourney #4!
Well Ian blew into my town, and while my wife and I are safe and dry, and the roof is still attached it did leak and Ian did some other damage. But we are blessed that it is the first time in our 35 years of living in our home that we have any damage from hurricanes. It put me a little behind as I dealt with insurance and got emergency repairs to prevent any more damage but now we are ready to start Tourney #4! I appreciate everyone’s patience.
Just a few changes to this tournament, as suggested by poll results/suggestions.
** BIG - Time control for tis tourney will be 60 minutes plus 30 sec increment. 76% of respondents voted for the new time control.
** All byes will now be just a ½ point. Only one requested bye per tournament will score a ½ point.
** Failure to attempt to negotiate a paying time in good faith will results in a 1 week, 0-point bye and a “yellow card”. Two weeks in the same tourney will result in a “red card” and removal from the tournament.
** This tournament will be 6 weeks, each round 1 week except for round 5 which will last 2 weeks to allow for the Thanksgiving holiday in the US.
Other key results from the poll:
• 40% of the respondents were playing in their first tourney – keep inviting your friends ….
• 88% of the respondents agreed that the grouping with the whole world worked well.
• We had some good rule change suggestions, a couple which have been implemented and I am working on a couple of the others.
• We may look at expanding to an 8-week tournament after the New Year. Stay tuned …
First a few details that need to be mentioned:
- Tournament #4 will start next Monday (24-Oct) and run for 6 rounds, through 11-Dec (1 week per round, except for round 5).
- All players need to be aware of when time changes happen in their country. In the US this will happen at 2am on 6-November, other countries (if they change) may be different. PLEASE ENSURE YOU UNDERSTAND THIS WHEN YOU NEGOTIATE/SCHEDULE.
- The format will be negotiated games, rated at 60 minutes +30 second increment. This means you will negotiate a time that is agreeable to both sides. Negotiations must take place in the messaging system here at chess.com unless both players agree to another method, and the agreed upon time must be posted in the comments of the announcement for that week's pairings. The player not posting the scheduled time can agree by giving a thumbs up to the comment. VERY IMPORTANT – if an agreeable time cannot be reached you can settle on a scheduling draw. However, both sides must make a good faith effort to reach a playable time.
- Signups will end @ 10:00 AM EDT (14:00 GMT) on 24-October, the first-round pairings will be posted by 10:00 PM EDT on 24-October (02:00 GMT on 25-October).
- Late signups will be accepted up through round 4, but you will not score any points for the rounds you missed. You will not be eligible to win the section if you sign up after round 2
- I will again be using the SwissSystem.org website to help me track and pair players.
- Scheduling byes will receive ½ point for the entire tournament, you may request 1 bye worth 1/2 point through round 4, after round 4 requested byes will not be worth any points.
