En Peasants Open V RECAP
What an event! Another great tournament, and our last until the 5th March due to admin unavailability. A turnout of 7 club members, all of who stayed to the end, gave us a high-stakes, and extremely close match. The final match of the tournament, which was extremely tense in itself, was also the Kingmaker! In his first En Peasants Open appearance, MooMoo314 took the Gold with an impressive score of 3/3 against high-rated opponents! It also continued the En Peasant's trend of winners being unable to defend their championships. Let's take a look at the games....
ROUND 1 vs Lucyelfamalan:
MooMoo314's first game was a bit of a rating imbalance, but he played it very well. After his opponent blundered a piece in the opening, he was able to maintain his comfortable advantage. Lucyelfamalam played on until the 24th move, where she resigned.
ROUND 2 vs Doyoulikecurry
A short game against Doyoulikecurry, but by no means uninteresting. Featuring a Fantasy Variation of the Caro-Kann, white overlooked the strength of MooMoo314's exd4 on move 11 in countering white's building attack. This mistake was then punished by black, and confounded by a further hanging of a fork. Doyoulikecurry resigned on the 19th move.
ROUND 3 vs XavXav2
Watching this game live was a tense thrill. Both players demonstrated competent knowledge of the Dutch Defence, and were dead equal until move 13. From here, it was utter pandemonium, with both players missing potentially winning ideas as the Eval Bar switched between extremes. However, XavXav2 blundered on move 27, allowing MooMoo314 to secure an advantage. Checkmate was delivered just four moves after.
CONGRATULATIONS to MooMoo314, becoming the fifth ever winner of the En Peasants Open!
